Every summer, the rooftop of Monforte d'Alba transforms into one of the most atmospheric concert venues in Italy. Monfortinjazz — the international music festival at the open-air Auditorium Horszowski — has been held here since 1976, bringing world-class artists to one of the most beautiful stages in the Langhe. Villa Irene Langhe is in Monforte d'Alba. This is our guide to the festival.
The Auditorium Horszowski
The Auditorium Horszowski is built into the natural hollow at the top of the medieval village of Monforte d'Alba. On one side, the ancient bell tower; on the left, the Oratory of Sant'Agostino; at the back of the stage, the walls of Castello Scarampi and the Oratory of Santa Elisabetta. Capacity is just 800 seats — making every concert an intimate, unforgettable experience.
The auditorium was named in 1986 after the Polish-American pianist Mieczysław Horszowski, following a memorable concert he gave here. Over nearly 50 years, it has hosted some of the greatest names in jazz, soul, world music and contemporary music — Stefano Bollani, Diana Krall, Brad Mehldau, Paolo Fresu, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Buena Vista Social Club, Kings of Convenience, Graham Nash, Ludovico Einaudi and many more.

What makes Monfortinjazz unique
With only 800 seats and a natural open-air stage in the heart of a medieval hilltop village, Monfortinjazz is the opposite of a large music festival. The scale is intimate: you are close to the artists, the sound is excellent, and the setting — surrounded by Barolo vineyards, with the hills of the Langhe stretching to the horizon — is unlike any other.
Many of the world's greatest musicians have spoken of the Horszowski stage as one of the most beautiful they have ever performed on.
Where to stay for Monfortinjazz
Villa Irene Langhe is in Monforte d'Alba — walking distance from the Auditorium Horszowski. You can attend an evening concert and return to the villa on foot, ending the night with a glass of Barolo on the panoramic loggia overlooking the vineyards.
We can advise on the best concerts for your dates, help with ticket purchases, and combine festival evenings with winery visits and restaurant bookings during the day.
The three units — The School House, Suite Red and Suite Green — can be booked individually or exclusively for groups of up to 10 guests. Festival dates fill up quickly. We recommend booking well in advance.
